Vince Matthews

In 2009, a job transfer brought Vince to Boise – a place he visited once as a child and wanted to return to for many years. He grew up in southern Oregon, and the move to Boise was a return to the west after 31 years. In 2018, he retired after a career with the statistical agency of the US Department of Agriculture.

He started teaching for Community Ed with a class on growing bean sprouts. He wanted to share his knowledge of a simple process that he thought might be new to some people. The positive feedback from his students led him to consider other classes he might teach. He’s now taught an introduction to the Boise GreenBike system, bicycle safety, juggling, a basketball workout, and how to use a speed bag.

In addition to teaching with Community Ed, he has volunteered with Boise GreenBike, the Boise Bicycle Project, and the Morrison Center. At Boise State, he works out at the Rec, attends sports events and musical programs, and participates in Osher Lifelong Learning. As much as possible, he travels around town by bike. In the winter, he skis some at Bogus, and in the summer, he likes to hike and camp. He tells people if they’ve got a skill or interest to share, Community Ed is a great way to do it.

Brian Klene Brian Klene started juggling as a young teenager and has continued juggling on and off over 6 decades. He graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina with a degree in English literature, and received his MBA from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He enjoyed a long career in information technology and semiconductor maufacturing serving in a variety of senior leadership roles and lived and worked in locations around the United States, as well as Asia and Europe, before retiring in Boise. He and his wife have been married for 44 years, and have three children and four grandchildren. Recently, and primarily to entertain his grandchildren, he started juggling again. He observed a number of unexpected health benefits as a result of his return to juggling, and thought it would be fun to share the hobby and the benefits with others.
