Ada County Coroner's Office

The Coroner is responsible for certifying the cause and manner of death for Ada County cases, as well as managing the daily operations of the office. This position is highly skilled and requires extensive expertise and experience in the death investigation field in order to hold and maintain the International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners (IAC&ME) accreditation as well as the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME) accreditation; the ACCO proudly upholds both.

The Ada County Coroner’s Office operates under the statuary obligation of determining cause and manner of death along with the obligation of identifying deceased individuals and locating and notifying legal next of kin within Ada County. Deaths are investigated for any individual who expires within Ada County boundaries including those unattended by a physician, violent or non-natural deaths and deaths of minors (children under 18) with no significant medical history.

The Coroner’s Office serves the living by working on behalf of the deceased to obtain the truth and circumstances of their death. This office is independent of all other entities: law enforcement agencies, physicians, nursing homes, hospitals, attorneys…etc.

There are three distinct divisions within the Ada County Coroner’s Office; Administration, Investigations and Forensics. All three divisions work in tandem with one another and each division plays a vital role within the office.
