Instructor Information

NameBio
Bill March Bill March is a native of Nebraska, so he's naturally very impressed with the topography of Boise's foothills; so impressed in fact, that he and his wife and family choose to live at the base of these foothills.

Bill started hiking several years ago and found that it was a type of exercise that he never dreaded. He loves low impact hill hiking which allows him to explore the old homesteads and mining sites in the southern foothills (Shaw Mountain area).

This is Bill's sixth year as a volunteer instructor for Community Education. He develops software for the printing industry and enjoys taking groups hiking each week from a spot near Ben's Crow Inn.

INSTRUCTOR SPOTLIGHT, Spring 2013

Bill March has been hiking and enjoying the peace and beauty of the Boise foothills for years, and he shares that love with Community Education in his "Hiking for Health" class. He found this new passion by accident. "As a non-exercise-oriented person in my late forties I started taking some trail hikes in the foothills with my neighbor," Bill says. "I found that the environment on the hill was so beautiful, refreshing and peaceful that I noticed I was really enjoying the activity on several levels. I never dreaded going and was always glad I went."

Peace of mind wasn't the only benefit that Bill noticed from his hikes; he also enjoyed weight loss, muscle development, and general better health and felt inspired to share these benefits with other Boise residents. With the foothills surrounding the valley, hiking is a beneficial and inexpensive form of exercise that is easy to stick with and enjoy for years to come.

Bill holds undergrad degrees in History and Business. Currently, he has finished developing and marketing a web-to-print label management solution for the package printing industry. Patrons who enroll in his course will learn more than the location of trails and trail etiquette, Bill also spices up his presentation with tidbits of the Boise foothills history.

Bill and his family moved from Omaha 12 years ago. He and his wife are raising two young teens and an Aussie Shepherd/Brittany Spaniel mix (who lives for her foothills hikes!) completes their family.

Bill enjoys woodworking in his home shop, reading history, watching foreign movies from the public library and raising his children in his free time. He has volunteered to teach his course with Community Education for many years and has brought the love of Boise, exercise and the foothills to many, many students.
