Course Description

The Baha'i Faith is the most recent of the world religions offering a refreshing view that the religions all come from God. Each is like a chapter of the Great Book and this is the most recently authored chapter. This course will cover some history: the early beginnings in the religion of the Bab, Herald to the Baha'i Faith, then of the "Manifestation of God", the Messenger/Prophet known as Baha'u'llah, "The Glory of God" in English. We discuss the leadership succession, which is designed to preserve the unity of the Faith, preventing its fragmentation into sects. We examine the spiritual, eternal teachings which provide greater clarity to the past religious teachings and the social teachings destined to guide humanity through this most turbulent period of its history into the era of global peace and prosperity. We examine how the Baha'i community functions and look at the daily life of the Baha'is.

This class will not only give you an appreciation for the Baha'i Faith but will give another way of seeing the truth in whatever faith system you adhere to. Materials will be provided electronically. The course follows the basic outline of "The Baha'i Faith, The Emerging Global Religion" by William S. Hatcher and J. Douglas Martin, 1984 Harper & Row, a widely available scholarly text on the Baha'i Faith.

This class was created in response to popular demand by students of "Exploring the Great World Religions" class, which has been offered for several sessions, however, that class is not a prerequisite.
