Alan Sweeney | Alan Sweeney has been growing and crafting on gourds since 2000, but it wasn't until he learned to chip carve on them that he found his real niche. He began teaching family and friends and was soon receiving teaching requests from people who had seen his work, including requests from both the Idaho and the Washington State Gourd Societies. Alan is a member in good standing of the American Gourd Society and several of its state chapters. Alan is a retired welder. Gourd art is his hobby, and he spends most of his time with gourds and gardening. His artwork is not for sale but it can be purchased on occasion at different fundraisers with 100% of the proceeds going to the fundraiser. The Boise School District has given Alan the opportunity to heal a part of his past by offering Boise Evening School. He is a grateful graduate of 2004 and feels that volunteering as a Community Education Instructor is a great way to give back!

Duane Langworthy | Duane Lanworthy was introduced to gourd art in 1998 when his sister gave him a few seeds to grow. After his first successful crop, he joined the Idaho Gourd Society and began learning the many different techniques used on gourds. He specializes in Gourd Mask making and weaving paper fiber rush onto gourds to create beautiful one-of-a-kind gourd baskets. He has entered his art work in several gourd art competitions and taken top awards. Duane enjoys teaching gourd art classes at the Rochester Gourd Patch in Caldwell, Idaho and has also volunteered with the BSU Art Department to teach an Introductory Gourd Art Course. However, Duane's best work happens at his daughter's elementary school classroom. Each year he volunteers to teach the students the joy of gourd art by helping them transform the gourds he then donates. |
