Elissa Maguire

Elissa Maguire, E-RYT, LMT, spent six years as a certified/registered Hatha Yoga teacher before she broadened her professional interests. Certified in Reiki in the late 1980s, she pursued the study of T'ai Chi and was certified a T'ai Chi Chih instructor in 1995. As a result of her continuing interest in the Oriental Arts, Elissa completed her certification in Jin Shin Jyutsu and began teaching others to help themselves. She later completed study in Massage Therapy and is licensed in the state of Idaho.

All together, Elissa has been teaching for thirty-nine years, and still loves to share her broad and solid body of knowledge with others.

INSTRUCTOR SPOTLIGHT WINTER 2019:

Elissa Maguire was born and raised in Pennsylvania where she met and married her husband of 51 years and began raising two children.  Her husband's work has moved them all over the United States

Elissa has been a lifestyle educator since 1978, specializing in adapting for older adults. In those 50 years, she has taught yoga, nutrition, acupressure, T’ai Chi Chih, and group exercise for seniors and healthy adults throughout the United States.  Her early interest in health and wellness resulted in incorporating Iyengar-style yoga in her college curriculum, finally apprenticing with her teacher for 2 years.

In 1983, she was among the first group of teachers to receive her certification from the RIMYI in Pune, India.

In 1989, at the behest of the Department of Health and Human Services, she created a course to address the stresses and strains that occur in office workers with imbalances due to inactivity and seated fatigue in general.  (We all need this!)  She called the course Stretch, Flex and Relax.

It was also during this period that Elissa pursued her interests in T’ai Chi, Reiki, Jin Shin Jyutsu and Aikido.  She completed her T’ai Chi Chih certification in 1995.  In 2016, she completed her studies and became a Reiki Master.

Elissa has also been granted certification in Therapeutic Bodywork and Massage by the National Certifying Board. She has completed the requirements for certification in the practice of Spinal Touch.  She has also studied Access, Amanae, and completed three advanced massage trainings in Muscle Channel Massage which is now her specialty.

Within a year of moving to Idaho, she discovered Community Ed and it seemed a logical fit.  We are so glad she found us!

Elissa brings years of training and practice to all she does and has established herself as a knowledgeable instructor and practitioner. Her students love her classes, and the care she gives them.  This Winter session, she will be offering T'AI CHI CHIH: AN INTRODUCTION; ADAPTING YOGA FOR STIFFER BODIES; ACUPRESSURE 101; and YOGA FOR MEN WHO DON'T BEND! Don’t miss out!  Her classes fill very quickly!
